Now that it’s officially spring, and summer is right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to do a little post on some of my favorite go to lip products! I use to never wear color on my lips. I always felt like it looked too intense on me and made me look terrible. My mom’s a huge lipstick person, and would always beg me to wear it. It drove me crazy, but then I started listening to her and noticed that it did make me look a lot more fresh and put together. I started to realize that it wasn’t having color on my lips that made me look bad, it was the fact that I was choosing the completely wrong colors for my complexion. I still choose things that are more subtle and definitely prefer pinky nudes over a red lip any day, but as the weather is warming up and it’s getting sunnier outside I have been loving adding a little pop of pink or peach to freshen my face up a bit! My lips are usually really dry, so I always keep a chap stick in my bag. Now, I make sure to have something with at least a little hint of color. On the weekends or the rare occasion that I go out during the week I’ll use something with more of a pop.
Lip products are the things I try to keep as natural as possible, because they are close to my mouth, and I always inevitably end up getting some in my mouth. I know these brands aren’t 100% organic and not all of them are as clean as they come, but when it comes to larger name brands and chain stores like Sephora, these options are “more clean” than a lot of their other competitors. The products listed below are all free of parabens, phthalates, and sulfates.
The Dry Lip Savers:
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue
I tried this for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I love tinted lip balm because it’s both hydrating and adds a little touch of color to the lip. It contains coconut oil and vitamin E to moisturize and soothe the lips, and has a special algae and marine complex made by Tarte that’s suppose to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles! This product doesn’t contain any parabens or phthalates. It’s perfect for my day to day because I’m usually in class, clinic, or studying so I want a multipurpose lip product I can throw in my purse and don’t want anything too bold…definitely wouldn’t match my white coat or work out clothes vibe ?
Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask and Lip Balm
I have been using bite beauty’s agave lip mask for the last year or so after getting it as a beauty insider gift at Sephora. I love Bite Beauty as a brand because all of their products contain the antioxidant Resveratrol which helps prevent aging of the lips. Yes, your lips can age! Their products are also all free of parabens, phthalates, and sulfates! So great! I am beyond obsessed with this stuff. It’s so incredibly hydrating, smells amazing, and if you accidentally get a little lick of it, you will not be disappointed. It’s pricey, but a little goes a really really long way. I use a tiny dot of it each time. It doesn’t have any color, but it gives your lips a really nice healthy sheen. I recently purchased the stick version of it to try, thinking it might be easier than having to squeeze the stuff out of the tube. I really like the stick version, but after trying both, I have to say that I definitely prefer the mask. It’s much more hydrating and gives your lips more of a shine!
The peachy nude gloss:
Buxom Full-on Lip Cream
Buxom lip glosses have been my favorite for as long as I can remember. They are thick and glossy, but don’t feel sticky. They have a little tingle and give your lips a little extra plump. They have so many beautiful color options, and the color lasts for hours! Buxom’s lip creams don’t contain parabens, phtalates, or sulfates, but they do contain dyes and some other preservatives. Not as clean as they come, but I believe in moderation 😉 My favorites are the glossy lip creams because they are super natural when you wear them alone and then look so pretty when worn over lip liners. I picked up the shade Bellini because it’s a super natural nude with a hint of peach. I thought it would be perfect for spring and summer .I love it layered over my Buxom lip pencils but also wear it on it’s own all the time!
The perfect nude lip:
Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo
I saw Hourglass’s un-nudes display at my local Sephora and couldn’t resist picking one up! They have a so many nude shades, so you’ll be able to find your perfect nude no matter what complexion you have! It’s one of those jumbo crayon type products, so it’s really easy to apply and you don’t really need a lip liner. The product itself is very hydrating. It contains jojoba oil, shea butter, and sunflower seed oil so it really helps to moisturize your lips. I’m starting to sound redundant, but it’s also free of parabens, phtalates, or sulfates. It’s not matte, but it’s not super glossy either. It’s really natural and beautiful! I chose the color Influencer. On my skin tone it’s the perfect nude with a hint of pink!

The layering lips:
Buxom Plumpline Lip Liner
I am not a lip liner person. I’ve started devoting much more time to my makeup, but still never have the patient to line my lips. I also find most lip liners to be really drying and a lot of them rub off my lips and make me look really messy. That was all until I saw these little liners on Youtube. Almost every beauty Youtuber I follow posted them in their monthly favorites video, so I decided to give them a try. I picked one very basic nude (shade Stealth) and tried to go out of my comfort zone by grabbing a peachy pink one (shade Confidential) that’s definitely brighter than what I usually go for. These are so great! They are definitely thicker than most lip pencils, so I find that they are easier to apply. The other end has a brush on it so you can blend the color out in the middle. My favorite way to wear these is actually to mix them together, and throw on a lip gloss. I line the rim of my lips with the nude color and then fill in the middle with the pinky peach color. Then I use the brush at the other side of the pencils to blend the colors together.
