Let’s talk vitamins and supplements for travel!
I live in Southern California, but I’m always deficient in Vitamin D according to my labs. The truth is, most of us spend so much time indoors, and when we are outdoors, not enough of our bodies are exposed to the sun to actually absorb the necessary amount of Vitamin D. It’s an important vitamin for so many things like your immunity and energy, so I always travel with this!
At this point, I don’t know what I’d do without my probiotics. I take these for my digestive health, and for my acne and eczema. They have been a huge game changer, and I’m not willing to part with them for a week. I usually use Klaire Labs Ther-biotic which has to be refrigerated. That’s a huge pain when traveling, so for trips, I like to use Integrative Therapeutic’s Probiotic pearls. They are tiny, and can be stored at room temperature making them a great travel companion!
This is another non-negotiable supplement for me. I wrote a blog post on why I love it, which you can read here. Unfortunately, I feel like I’m always in some kind of pain, whether it be a headache, neck or back pain, muscle tension, or menstrual cramps. This takes care of it all, while also helping my stress and anxiety! I travel with magnesium glycinate because it’s best for muscle tension. Since I’m going to be doing a lot of hiking on this trip, this is especially important!
Recently, I’ve been having really bad heartburn, which is very new for me. My stomach has also been acting a bit abnormally. I take bitters before a meal to help me digest it better. It makes such a big difference! I always start here with my patients before turning to enzymes! Especially when you’re traveling and don’t know what the meal situation will be like, it’s great to have on hand!
Smoothe Move tea:
This tea isn’t something you want to take long-term, because you can start to become dependent, but it’s great for short-term use while traveling when people tend to get a little backed up.
I always take Vitamin C in some form because I like to support my immune system a bit more while traveling!
Echinacea and Goldenseal:
This product is pure magic! My friends seriously can’t believe how well it works. If you take this right when you start to feel any symptoms of being sick, you will likely wake up the next day feeling completely fine! Echinacea is great at killing bacterial infections, while Goldenseal is a very strong anti-viral, basically this covers all your bases. This isn’t something I take daily, I just have it on hand incase myself, or anyone I’m with, starts feeling a little under the weather.
